We all started somewhere!

Warrix Flying Group is able to offer tuition to novice pilots on a one to one basis, predominantly held on a Wednesday evening, the club's beginner's nights are always busy.

Able to offer assistance in flying and model set-up, our instructors will guide the beginner from their first wobbly try on the controls through to their SAA Bronze proficiency test which is necessary to fly solo at the main site. Check the events page for details of our beginners nights.

At present, this is limited to fixed wing models only although steps are underway to offer novice helicopter pilots the same level of guidance.

As a complete beginner there is always going to be a tempting array of products on offer that will claim to be 'ideal' for beginners.

In our experience we have found the following products to be reliable and also representative of good value for money. This is in no way an endorsement or a guarantee that the products here will suit your particular needs, for more detailed guidance please speak to one of the club's instructors.

Airframes:

Irvine Tutor .40

Thunder Tiger Trainer .40

Engines:

OS .46 LA

SC .52 Fourstroke

Evolution .46

Radio Gear:

Futaba 6EX Faast 2.4 GHz System - Good budget buy.

Spektrum DX7 Combo 2.4GHz System - a bit more pricey but high quality.

There are also many other radio systems available, especially those operating on 35mHz, there is nothing wrong with the 35Mhz setups and some of them can be incredibly good value. 2.4 GHz represents the latest technology however and is increasingly popular at the field allowing safer operation.

Field Gear

You will also require what is known as a field box and it's contents, these are often available as 'deals' from retailers and as an absolute beginner can represent further good value for money. You will need:

A 12v (7Ah) Gel Cell Battery

A 12v Starter

A fuel pump

Fuel (of course...)

A glow plug driver

again, please ask for assistance on this as many members often have spare equipment they may be willing to sell on as they upgrade their own.
